Dinner With the Doc

Mission: Outbreak
Location: Lounge

After she wrapped up her duties for the day and turned Security over to the Beta Shift officer, Camila paused and tried to decided if she even wanted to change her uniform or just go get something to eat. Finally, she decided to go grab a change of clothes and a quick sonic shower in her quarters. Once she arrived in her quarters, she stripped out of her uniform and took a quick shower before she changed into a pair of colorful pants, a white shirt with colored beads that looked like a fruit basket on the front and a denim jacket she had replicated at Deep Space 11. Satisfied, she headed down to the lounge to see what looked edible and to see if there was anyone to keep her company.

Jayla had finished up late in Sick Bay. Just as she had been about to leave, a teenager had come in with a broken bone and she was forced to engage in some banter. Teenagers liked her, though she wasn't quite sure why. Once the girl was patched up and on her way- her father thanking Jayla profusely- Jayla headed out. She decided to head to the lounge for dinner and maybe some socializing. Once there, she spotted the Chief of Security, whom she didn't know very well. That was just up her alley. "Hi," she said as she approached her table. "Mind if I join you?"

Camila looked up at the unfamiliar voice and her mind associated the Trill with the Doctor that she had yet to see. "Sure," she said with the hope that the Doctor was as off duty as she was. "I just got here and it looks like it's going to be a busy night. I'm Camila."

"Jayla," said Jayla, taking the seat across from her. "Nice to meet you."

Camila let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. "A pleasure. I was just here to get some dinner."

"Me, too," replied Jayla with a friendly grin. "And meeting people. I don't know everyone yet. That must be remedied."

"I hear that," Camila said. "I've only met a few people and the one guy that I thought was cute ended up shooting at my personnel and trying to blow us up with an overloaded phaser. I never have luck when it comes to guys."

"Well, if it's any consolation, that wasn't really him," replied Jayla, knowing who she was talking about. "But, it sounds to me like you should probably give less than cute guys a chance. Sometimes, the unattractive ones turn out to be incredibly sexy."

"Still, it's rotten luck," Camila said. "There is something to be said for personality, but eye candy is nice, too. The Flight Chief is kind of cute, too."

"Yeah, he's all right," said Jayla with a shrug. "I go for personality over looks."

"Don't get me wrong," Camila said as she glanced at the menu on the table PADD. "A personality is definitely a requirement as well as not being a mind controlled psychopath. Right now, I have plenty of options and no choices."

"Then just sit back and let him come to you," Jayla said. "Or else be happy on your own. I know I am. Well, was." She also glanced at the menu, but she was in an adventurous mood, so she was probably just going to tell them to make her their favorite.

"Oh?" Camila asked. "You have a secret that you'd care to share?"

Jayla grinned. "I've been seeing someone," she said. "Not for long. It just started two days ago. But, I wasn't looking. He just sort of... fell into my lap."

Camila gave her a sly look. "So I'm going to have to do some investigating while off duty, hmm? Red, Gold, or Teal?"

"Did anyone say you couldn't ask for his name?" Jayla asked, eyes twinkling.

"Here I thought you wanted to play a game," Camila said. "I'll bite. What's his name?"

Jayla grinned. "Unfortunately, I don't think we're quite ready to go public yet," she said. "Let's call him Paul for now."

"Am I going to have to review the security cameras?" Camila asked with a grin.

"If you want to know that badly, yes," Jayla replied with a laughing smile.

"I'm sure the rumor mill will get the word out sooner or later," Camila said as she entered in an order of spaghetti and meatballs with a side of garlic bread, and a white wine to go with it. "You look like you're happy and that's a rare thing when serving on a small ship where everyone knows your business almost as soon as you do."

"I'm always happy," said Jayla, entering in her order of 'surprise me.' "Well, cheerful, anyway. I like small ships better. It's easier to get to know everyone."

"Not me," Camila said. "It's impossible to do anything without everyone finding out, as I said. Being in Security, I either become 'The Enemy'," she put finger quotes around the words. "Or everyone thinks they can use the let's get close to Security so they'll overlook certain things ploy. I don't like being the bad gal, especially when I do get to be friends with some personnel, but I don't want to lose what I've earned, either."

"So, you're not going to overlook that contraband I'm storing in my quarters?" said Jayla, but the effect was ruined by the mischievous grin she wore.

"Only if you promise to give me a clean bill of health when I finally come in to Medical for my physical," Camila returned.

"Deal," laughed Jayla. "So, what do you do for fun?"

"I really haven't had much time for fun other than to play some violin lately," Camila said. "Although that did turn into an experience I'll never forget. I was dressed as a pirate playing violin in the holodeck with tentacles and dancers in a fountain around me and the Captain came in and promoted me to Lieutenant and the position of Chief of Security. It'll certainly be a story that I'll remember as long as I serve. Other than that, I like parkour, which is an extreme gymnastic workout in full body motion, orbital skydiving when I can get a chance, and Jiu Jitsu, which is really fun when you need to throw people around."

"Wow," said Jayla. "Those are interesting hobbies. I just do Yoga and play tennis."

"Of course, now that I have all of Security to run, I'll probably end up letting half of them go to the side until I can find a balance," Camila said wistfully.

"Eh, you usually make time for the things you love," replied Jayla. "I know I do. I read less so I can play more tennis."

"Well, I really can't do orbital skydiving while on a ship," Camila replied. "I still play violin and practice Jiu Jitsu, and parkour is limited to the holodeck when I have time. Maybe you can teach me Yoga and you can have me teach you something?"

"Hm, Jiu Jitsu would be useful," answered Jayla, spotting a waiter coming with their food. "Oh, good, I'm hungry. I hope they've picked something amazing for me."

"Sesame shrimp?" the waiter queried.

"That must be me," said Jayla, grinning. She liked shrimp.

The waiter set the plate in front of her and set the spaghetti and meatballs in front of Camila. "Enjoy your meal, ladies," he said with a charming grin.

"Thank you," Camila said with a smile at the waiter. "I hope you have a great evening." She looked at Jayla. "Looks like you got lucky."

Jayla grinned mischievously and winked. "Not the first time," she said cheekily.

"If you don't tell me some details other than a mysterious 'Paul'," Camila said. "I'll start teaching you Jiu Jitsu here and now. You, on the other hand, may scream as loud as you wish."

Jayla grinned as she speared a shrimp with her fork. "All right, all right," she said. "I'll shut up about it. So, yoga is pretty easy. I'd be happy to show you. Or, there's a class three times a week that you could join."

"Spill it, Jayla," Camila said as she forked a meatball and wrapped some spaghetti around it.

"I told you, we're not ready to go public, yet," said Jayla with another grin. "I promise, though, when we are, you're the first person I'll tell. Okay?"

"C'mon," Camila wheedled after taking a bite of her food. "I don't need his real name. Did he make you squeal? Did you make him speak other tongues?"

"Oh, that much I can tell you," Jayla said, eyes glittering mischievously. "It was good. Really good. But, the next morning was spectacular."

"Oh my!" Camila said, taking a sip of her wine. "At least you didn't have to gnaw his or your arm off to escape without waking him up."

"Nah, I had to stick around in case there was more," she said, trying some of the rice noodles that came with the shrimp. "And of course there was. Men rarely say no."

"Few men do," Camila agreed before tearing a piece of garlic bread off and dipped it in sauce to take a bite. "I'm thinking that every guy on this ship is probably taken by now or interested in someone else, so I'll probably end up breaking out my old holodeck program: Knights of Venus."

"I dunno, there's a pretty hot Bajoran in engineering," said Jayla. "He's a bit shy, but I suspect he'd be up for... something," she finished suggestively.

Camila laughed. "I dated a Bajoran once," she said. "The things he could do with his nose ridges...mmm."

"Mmm," giggled Jayla, imaging. "I've never dated a Bajoran. A human, a Klingon- that was a mistake- a Vulcan, and another human. That's the current one," she added, taking another bite of shrimp and noodles.

Camila shuddered. "Klingons are too rough. I had to phaser one when I was an Ensign and he thought it was foreplay," she said. "Vulcans are too stiff. Now Betazoids...the men really know how to play."

"Oh, I don't know, Sovak wasn't stiff at all," said Jayla. "Well, except when I needed him to be," she added with a wink. "Which was often."

Camila ate another bite of her spaghetti and laughed. "Seriously? A Vulcan who could do more than the deed?"

"Mm, you have no idea," said Jayla. "Sometimes I wonder why I didn't go back to Vulcan with him when he went back. I mean, I could have just as easily been a doctor there, right? I guess I didn't like him as much as I'd thought."

"Not to mention the fact that Vulcan is so hot that it would bleach your spots," Camila pointed out.

"I'm sure I'd get used to it," pointed out Jayla. "Other people do. But, never mind. Sovak has probably moved on by now. And so have I," she added with another twinkling grin.

"Well, whoever it is, I hope it works out for you," Camila said. "You're making me jealous."

"Well, if it makes you feel any better, we had an argument over tennis," she said. "Well, racquetball, anyway. Less than 24 hours and we had our first argument."

"An argument over something like that so soon?" Camila asked after taking another sip of her wine and toyed with her spaghetti for a moment.

Jayla giggled. "Yeah," she said. "It was ridiculous, but it lead to some fun afterwards."

"Make up sex is the best," Camila agreed. "At least when an argument leads to that."

"Absolutely," agreed Jayla. "Although, I wouldn't call it make up sex. It was more like angry sex. But, if was good. And we DID stop arguing."

"I would imagine that angry sex would stop an argument," Camila said as she finished her dinner. "Right now, I would take boring sex."

"Sex is easy," said Jayla, spearing another shrimp. "It's an actual relationship that's hard. I'm guessing it's more the latter you're after."

"Yes and no," Camila said. "I mean, I would like a relationship, but with everything that's going on, it seems kind of impossible. No one really trusts anyone at the moment and that makes it really hard to get close to someone."

"Well, that's true," agreed Jayla. "I'm not even sure I can trust myself. I mean, that... stuff. How do I know it wouldn't work on me?"

"You don't," Camila said. "Look what happened to Lieutenant Bast. I spoke with him and have a better understanding of what it was like for him. It's terrifying to not have free will."

"Yeah," said Jayla. "I can only imagine. Well, let's not think about it right now. We can't do anything about it, so... let's just talk about something else."

"What shift is best for learning Jiu Jitsu for you?" Camila asked.

"Just after Alpha is best," said Jayla. "I usually do all of my exercising then."

"Oh, I will be starting up a Search and Rescue training class soon, too," Camila said. "I would be honored if you would attend."

"Absolutely," agreed Jayla. "Just tell me when."

"I'll be sending an invite out to most of the senior officers tomorrow for the meeting and breaking of it," Camila said. "It's a grueling course and most people end up washed out of it."

"Well, then," said Jayla with a grin. "I'll have to make sure I don't wash out."

"I'm willing to bet that you have the experience I'm looking for," Camila said. "Can I ask how many hosts you've had?"

"Eleven," answered Jayla. "Including this one. I'm not sure many of them had experiences that would be useful in Search and Rescue, though."

"It's the skills that are important," Camila said. "We'll all be doing a lot of cross training."

Jayla nodded. "I'm sure I can use a few new skills," said said with another grin.

"Be prepared to be sore," Camila warned. "Even with trained officers, it can take a toll."

"There's no better feeling than muscles that are sore from hard work," Jayla countered.

"Sure there is," Camila said with a laugh. "Sore muscles from a good night in bed."

"Well, there's that," agreed Jayla, rolling her shoulders. "Come to that, I am a little sore today."

"You should see if there's anyone on the ship that gives massages," Camila said. "If not, I have a Risian Masseur program you can use."

"Ooo, I'll have to see if Harvey wants to join me," replied Jayla. "I mean Paul! Forget I said that! I said Paul!" she added hurriedly.

"Harvey...as in Captain Harvey Geisler?" Camila asked, her eyes going wide.

"No!" said Jayla, trying to stifle the giggles. "Paul! It's Paul! Nobody said Harvey!"

"You did," Camila said with a knowing smile.

"Okay, but don't tell anyone," Jayla laughed. "Yes, as in Captain Harvey Geisler. But, as I said, it's still new, so keep it quiet, okay?"

"Your secret is safe with me," Camila said. "I'm a fully trained Security officer."

"Thanks," said Jayla with a sheepish grin. "As I said, we're not ready to go public, yet."

"I think I'll start the bidding at fifty bars of gold pressed latinum," Camila said thoughtfully.

Jayla laughed. "I think I can come up with about 300 if you keep it to yourself," she said. "And I might be able to get Paul to contribute some, too."

"Get back to me with his bid," Camila laughed. "I may have enough to retire at that rate."
