Mission: Outbreak

Adam couldn't help but laugh as he led Amy and Maria into the sickbay of the Black Hawk. "Amy, I love you, but we need to work on your timing for your jokes." Adam said.

"Isn't it fourteen thirty five?" Amy asked. That was enough for Adam who burst out laughing, with Amy and Maria laughing along with him. He saw a nurse approaching them. Adam took a deep breath and stood up.

"Hi. I'm here for a medical check in. Adam Casey, I'm the new Chief Science Officer." He said. The nurse looked at him for a moment, and nodded.

"I'll go and get the Doctor." She said. She went to Jayla's office. "The, umm, new Science Chief is here. Looks more like security." She commented.

Jayla grinned- as always- and put down the PaDD she was holding. "Big, huh?" she said. Going out into main Sick Bay, she spotted a man in science blue and grinned again. "Wow, you're right," she commented in an aside to the nurse. "Hi!" she said cheerfully to the tall man and his two girls. "I'm Doctor Jayla Kij. Hey, wait a minute!" she said with a teasing grin to the two children. "Aren't you two a little young to be in Starfleet? I'm gonna have to ask to see your orders!"

Both girls chuckled. "We don't have orders!" Amy exclaimed. "We give orders!"

"No, you like to try to. Doesn't mean I obey, miss." Adam replied.

"Yeah you do!" Amy said. Adam chuckled, shaking his head.

"Sad thing is, they're right." He said. "Adam Casey, new Science Chief. These two bundles of trouble are Amy and Maria." He introduced the girls.

"Well, it's a pleasure to meet you, Admiral Amy, Commodore Maria," said Jayla. "How do you like the ship so far?" The last question was directed at the science chief as well as the two girls.

"It's sooooo big. I never saw a ship this big before! There's lots of people too!" Maria said, grinning at the title.

"If I'm an Admiral, can I give an order for a lollipop?" Amy asked. Adam gave a very brief glare at her. "I mean...can I please have a lollipop?"

"Not until after dinner." Adam replied.

"All right, let's get you girls settled while I make sure your dad is healthy, okay?" said Jayla. "Or do they need physicals, too?"

"I'd appreciate it if you could give them a once over." Adam said. "That way, you can get a baseline for their medical charts."

"Absolutely!" said Jayla. "Right this way." She led them all over to a bio bed. "Okay, we're gonna have dad sit up here and you two at the end, all right?" she told the girls.

"Otay." Both girls said at the same time, as they climbed onto the bio bed. Adam sat down and smiled at them.

"For my last medical records, you'll need to check from 9 years ago, I left the fleet then. Not been aboard a fleet ship since." Adam explained.

"I'm sure that won't be a problem," she said, taking out her tricorder and starting the preliminary scans. She planned on doing this assembly-line style, getting all the scans done at once, then the visuals, then any blood work. "Well, you look pretty good," she said. "Health-wise, I mean. Now I get to scan you two," she said, turning to the girls. "It tickles a little," she teased with a wink.

Adam smiled as the two girls looked at the doctor, both grinning. "We're not ticklish!" Amy announced.

"Oh really?" Adam asked, raising an eyebrow. "Not ticklish? We'll see about that." He said, standing up, and smiling at the doctor.

Jayla grinned and began scanning the girls, glancing at them mischievously throughout. "Just wait until I get to your ribs," she told them. "That's when it really tickles."

Adam simply smiled as he watched the doctor. It was this that reminded him how close a crew actually were. He had half expected to feel like an outsider on his arrival, but so far everyone had made him feel like he had been here all along. It was a welcome feeling, and one he hoped others would share. "Not ticklish!" Maria stubbornly added, but grinning at the same time.

Jayla began scanning Maria's ribs and grinned mischievously at her. Then, she giggled, which was usually enough to elicit giggles from children, too.

Both girls looked at Jayla, and as she giggled, they couldn't but burst out laughing along with her, grinning. "No fair, no fair!" They called out. Adam smiled.

"I think you won." Adam said to Jayla. "How are they looking?"

Jayla grinned, eyes dancing as the girls giggled. "They're the picture of perfect health," she said. "Everything looks great on all three of you. I don't think I even have to do blood tests."

"I'm glad. I tend to make sure the kids are taken care of. They're very...energetic when it comes to running around and exploring, so it helps that their shots are always up to date." Adam said.

"That's good," agreed Jayla. "I'll get their records transferred here tomorrow and be in touch once I work out if they're due for anything. In the meantime," she added, turning to the girls. "Eat your vegetables and chocolate!" she told them with a wink.

"Not too much chocolate though." Adam said warmly. "As for their records, might wanna hold off for the moment." He said. He stepped away from the bio beds, indicating for the Doctor to follow. "Given the state of...well, the situation we're in, it's best if people don't know I'm aboard yet. I'm not exactly the draft pick for Starfleet at the moment." He said.

"I see," said Jayla. "Then I'll just assume they're on the normal schedule and go from there. Let me just get some information from you," she added, retrieving a data PaDD and starting new files for the girls. "Okay, I just need their full names and birth dates."

"Amy Louisa Casey, January 5th, 2380, and Maria Casey, March 17th 2382." He replied.

Jayla put the information into the files and uploaded the scan results. "Okay," she said. "Got it. Is there anything else I can do for you today?"

"No, that's everything. Just gonna get these two to unpack their bags and then get some lunch I think." Adam said. "Thanks Doc."

"You're welcome," answered Jayla. "And you girls behave for your dad."

"We will." Amy and Maria said, in the best teasing voice they could muster. Adam rolled his eyes.

"See what I have to put up with?" He asked, with a sly grin.

"If they don't behave, you can bring them back for a "good girl" inoculation," Jayla said with a wink at the girls.

"We'll be good." Amy said.

"Pwomise!" Maria added, using the same, childish voice she always did when trying to be cheeky and sweet, knowing her dad would always say yes to her.

"I'm gonna hold you to it," Jayla warned with a grin and a wink.

"Alright girls, time to head off. Thanks Doc." Adam said, as the girls stood up. "I'll chat to you later."

"It was nice meeting you all," said Jayla. "Take care."

"You as well." Adam replied. "Alright trouble makers, let's go." He said, leading the girls out of sickbay, glad that so far, things were going well.
