Mission: Outbreak
Location: Starbase Unity
Timeline: MD7

ON:

Samantha stirred in her bed as she was restless as her first shift up in starbase operations. She was happy and eager to get up there and get back to the old starfleet life. The alarm went off and she threw the simple digital clock off the side drawers, "Ohh poo, gotta pick that up." She turned over and continued sleep. Then the snooze alarm had sounded. Samantha bashed what she thought was the alarm but smashed the open drawer.

"OUCH!" Sam turned over, checked the floor and saw the clock sounding so loudly. She tried to reach but failed to pick up the clock. She grumbled and slipped out of bed to stop the alarm, she looked at the picture of her sister, "Sister, you don't know how much I stink." She sniffed under her arms, "Yup, The Ganjees." She stripped naked and walked to the shower. Moments Later, she went to her belongings to search for her red uniform and came across a load of green dirty uniforms and a few pressed clean red uniforms. The experience soon made her cry as the demise of one career was shown in how her uniforms were treated. She picked up the box that was in the drawer that's on the floor and she pulled out the dirty uniform with her colonel insignia and chest ribbons, "I was nearly there. *throws them on the floor, kneels down and tears off the chest ribbons* I don't deserve half of these now. *puts the ribbons on the fleet uniform.* No, I still haven't earned them now. ....I earned them once but don't deserve to wear them." She kept them off then looked at the two pips and one hollow and removed them one by one. She held them in her hand. "Dad will need a reminder." She took the bird off her green uniform, silver bar and went to the table. "Computer, send these pips to Major General Myers Hanson." The insignia disappeared from the table. She headed back to the red uniform and put it on. She saw it as a new start with the added training which she saw as an appreciation for the new Chief Of the Boat that she has to mould herself to. It was a very large come down and she could see why Starfleet didn't want any officer like me in the officer ranks. It was quite a large pill to swallow and she had only herself to blame and she was on her third chance before the stature of a father would become far less important to the problem she would be to the rest of Starfleet and if the rumours had continued to let her down before she could explain herself. She could never explain herself because anything she wanted to say, would be classified information. A mission authorised by her father, that went wrong by his hand and politically, he would have to save face so she was the fall girl. His own daughter; if it was any other person, they would have been casted out and never to return. The marines didn't give her three chances but two so they never wanted her; lieutenant, to major to lieutenant colonel to do the command course to become XO, moved to fleet with a change of rank to lieutenant commander. Then she had resigned that position as the marines offered her a battalion command and promotion to full colonel under her father's command. She thought that would be thrilling, a bit of father daughter time. She thought it would be good for the first few missions and some covert ones that were offered. Then it went sour with the increasing missions that she wasn't happy but did as she was told. She knew that military missions can be a thankful task both in the environment and back home, but nonetheless she did them. Then it was this last mission that she embarked upon; a success for her but an overall failure for her father. She remembered coming into his office and given the not so nice father daughter talk but a senior officer goodbye talk.

If still felt more comfortable than the green one even though they were made from the same material; she picked up the box that was on the floor, opened it to pick out the stripes and two stars to pin them on her neck. She pulled her top straight and walked to the wall mirror to look at herself and then stopped at the door. She thought of her father and felt that she needed to remember her father's name and nothing more; so she went back in, picked up her marine uniform and put it in the incinerator. That gave her closure and inherited stubbornness. She wanted nothing to do with her father; she knew she wasn't the favourite so she was more than happy to continue not being the favourite. Let her sister get all the glory and if Samantha does so much better in fleet then so be it. But yes she thought working from the ground up and tolerating the puns against her, would be something she'll have to put up with. Leaving the JAG office with her dignity and a brave face; she knew she was on a thin line and that Starfleet had given her a lot of leeway on the events that have transpired. Samantha felt that reeling from a JAG tribunal and coming away with her respect for herself tarnished, the look that everyone gives her and the attitude that everyone gives her; just makes her want to put her head down in disgust. With that, it is an automatic process to give someone that's been such a problem with a dismissal from starfleet or a reluctant reprimand and a posting to a new command at the earliest convenience. Samantha got the latter as they were thinking about reprisals later down the line and then it would be forgotten about. The JAG corps can either follow procedure and process or use rank and experience to determine the next course of action subject to what manner, form or shape of influence has been presented before them that would influence their judgement. There usually is no such thing as an impartial judge and hundreds if not many more would slip through the net of justice that are deserving of that said justice to be implemented upon them. So there's an imbalance, was Captain Picard working for the Borg? Wouldn't know so let him keep his command until it is proven whether he is or not later. Captain Spock for treason at Talus IV, no other JAG would allow the Enterprise to continue it's course let alone allow an extenuating circumstance of a previous captain grow old where there is no process or procedure in place to govern such a matter. Samantha's is nonetheless as unique. An extenuating circumstance where there isn't a JAG process or procedure to which an answer can followed to give advice to the tribunal judge. A mission that went wrong and the flag officer is saving face at the cost of his own daughter in light to what the rest of the command and the importance of the overall mission of said command.

That's when rank didn't make much if a difference to her; She looked like a woman with a woman's figure in red. The muscles of a Marine were well hidden which gave her an ounce of happiness. "It's a new start, let's go." With that, she picked up her PADD and headed out the door and down the corridor. She really wanted off this starbase because someone knows about her through rumour and news travel faster on starbases than they do on ships. Samantha wanted off the starbase and waiting for her ship to arrive was increasingly not an option and from the rumoured reports about the ship. She wasn't in a hurry from escaping the cauldron and into the fire. So for her it was a put up or shut up which didn't give her the fuzzy feeling. The demotion from lieutenant to senior chief was for fighting so hitting a master chief isn't an option and certainly not finding a vacant airlock or transport and oops! doesn't work either. She knew that she needs to be on her best behaviour and not let the seniors be a problem. Her plan of action was to keep her presence out of the MCPOs way; get to the new arrivals to the ship and let them get to know her first before the MCPO had any influence. Then let them make the choice for themselves.

Samantha approached the yellow bordered glass doors with the federation insignia across both doors. They opened and Samantha walked through, she saw the ops officer.

"Just over there, dock master has the cold but feel free to bring in the USS Gideon. Arrivals and replacements for the Blackhawk are on board."

"Excellent!" Samantha listened to the chatter and rotated the LCARS display to view the sensor array inwards to the starbase. She looked at the outer marker and started communicating with the various ships to queue them up in order of priority with an equal spacing apart.

"=/\= Freighter Ta'Shui to Starbase Unity on final approach in zone B.=/\=" Samantha looked for the freighter on sensors and plotted accordingly.

"=/\= Starbase Unity tracking you in zone B, regulations are one quarter impulse on approach and exit of the starbase. =/\=" The freighter changed course to the new trajectory and Samantha followed the freighter's path.

"=/\= Security to ops =/\=" came a voice from another panel. The ops officer went across to the panel, "Yup......yup......yup.......really? Well it's better than going into the enlisted mess to break up the odd fight." Samantha looks at him, "Cheek!"

"Well they don't hit the women. I've seen many an officer's mess with the same amount of violence...and many others that are serene and boring."

"Ours is the latter. =/\= Ops to security, well pit then at docking bay nine for quarantine protocol seven beta. =/\=" The ops officer communicated.

"Oh really? What does security want with a freighter?" Samantha asked.

"Ask them. Could be a routine search for all we know and I'm not going to ask.....I'll get to know when the freighter is leaving or it's captain is arrested."

Oh it's like that eh?" Samantha asked.

"The base command staff get to know before I do. We just play the game. " Samantha watched the display as the freighter went on its trajectory and stayed in the approach markers.

"Computer, adjust focus position and follow freighter for bay 9." The freighter navigated it's way to docking bay 9 and had docked successfully. The umbilical cord extended and there waiting were the group of yellow uniforms. Those yellow uniforms had entered the cord to make their way into the freighter's interior. Sammy clicked a few schematics of the freighter, it's manifest and it's captain. It all seemed kosher to her or was it too kosher that it would alert the security office. All she could do is look on.

"=/\= Starbase Unity, USS Gideon at zone delta heading for approach markers. =/\=" Samantha smiled.
