They're Incredible

Mission: Risky Business
Location: Recreation/Arboretum
Timeline: MD 2 || 1500 Hours

Cadet Senior Grade Kelly Khan stood in the recreation center looking to get into before her evening plans with Quinn. She wore a pink shirt with a black pattern on it and a pair of jeans with black shoes that had white skulls on them, and had her wavy brunette hair out of her on duty braid. She had just decided that recreation wasn't very recreational at the moment and started to head for the door.

Joey made her way toward the rec room with a little rest and relaxation in mind. It seemed that the closer they got to their targets, the more anxious she grew. The job she'd volunteered to do was... in theory... an easy one, but that was only if everything went according to the plan that was laid out the day before. With so many other factors on the enemy ship, though, it was most definitely not going to be a walk in the part. She was up for it, though. This was the exact thing she signed on for when she went into the academy some years before. It was all part of the job that needed to be done, and she was going to do it. However, that didn't mean she had to dwell on it.

Since it was after duty hours for her, she was dressed in a midriff bearing white tank top (It wasn't exactly low cut, but when you were blessed... or cursed depending who was asked, most things became that way.), a pair of low-rise jeans that hugged her hips and a pair of camel colored hiking boots. To complete the casual look, she wore her hair pulled back into a ponytail so it was out of her face. As she rounded the corner leading into the particular room she wanted, something caught her attention out of the corner of her eye, causing her to turn her head and not pay attention on where she was going.

A flash of movement from the corner of her eye caught Kelly's attention and she looked to the left and she turned her head slightly to see what or who it was to see if she needed to avoid who or what it was. In doing so, she didn't see the six foot brunette entering the recreation room and with as short as she was, it was inevitable that her face come in direct contact with the woman's chest. She found herself at a stop with something soft against her face and turned her head only to discover that she was not only blind, but something was on either side of her head.

Half in a panic, she brought her hands up to move the obstruction that was blocking her vision and found her hands on the sides of something big and soft as well. She moved her hands experimentally, then realized what it was that was preventing her from seeing and quickly took a step back and looked up. A very tall brunette woman with an extraordinary chest stood there and she gulped. "Uh...hi there," she said and offered a cheeky smile.

Not only had there been a face buried against her chest, but there were hands on them, too. She found herself breathing a sigh of relief when the culprit took a step back, but she followed suit and took one back as well. The more distance between them, the better. "Hi," Joey said, trying not to sound nearly as awkward as she felt. It wasn't everyday that something like that happened to her. Hopefully, the smaller woman felt more weirded out by what happened than she did.

"Umm...wow. I mean, hi," Kelly said. "Wait...I already said hi, didn't I? Well, since we already broke the ice, and in a spectacular way might I add, allow me to introduce myself." She gave a bright smile. "Cadet Senior Grade Kelly Khan, pilot extraordinaire and connoisseur of all things capable of flight, chocolate, caffeine, shiny things, rainbows, music and speed, at your service."

"Lieutenant Joelle Corwin." For some reason, though, she just couldn't picture herself being groped by the smaller woman as anything but awkward. However, Joey was more than willing to let it go. "It's nice to meet you."

Lieutenant Kelly gulped and took another half step back. I just inadvertently not only laid my hands on an officer, but on a part of her anatomy that's probably reserved for someone else. They wereincredible, though Then again, she didn't arrest me.... "Nice to meet you, too, Lieutenant Corwin," she said. "I'm really sorry for running into you but something caught my attention when I was walking out and didn't see you come in and then my face did something that really wasn't appropriate followed by my hands. Honestly, though, I wasn't really trying to do something you might not appreciate."

Joey shook her head. It was already awkward enough without digging that hole deeper, but now Kelly had a funny story to tell people about how they met. "Don't worry about it."

"Okay," Kelly said happily. "I haven't see you on the ship before and I'm sure that I'd remember you if you were because...you're really tall and, uh..." she faltered because she didn't know what department the woman was in or anything about her other than she had a really soft chest.

"Please... don't finish that sentence. I know what you're thinking," Corwin said, lifting a hand to stop her before she continued. It was definitely awkward, and this was only going to make it worse. "I am new to the ship, which is why you wouldn't remember seeing me."

"Finish what sentence?" she asked, curious. What was I going to say? she wondered, then dismissed it. She stopped and looked up into the woman's eyes and was relieved that they weren't the black of a Betazoid who knew her every thought. What if she's half Betazoid? she wondered a second later. "Anyhoo, welcome to the Black Hawk, Lieutenant. Has anyone showed you around yet?"

"Thank you. I've been finding my way around and getting acquainted with the ship. As a matter of fact, that's what I was doing right before I found myself here. Thought I'd take a break and kick back for a little while," Joey answered, moving to the side so Kelly could get by if she chose to.

"I can show you around if you want," Kelly offered, mainly to be near those gigantic globes that tested the structural integrity of the shirt she wore.

"Sure, if you've got the time," The taller woman answered, gesturing for Kelly to lead the way. "Where's the best place to start this tour?"

"I would say recreation, but we're already here," Kelly said. "Although there is three other recreation rooms. We also have a swimming pool here, if you like to swim. We also have a crew lounge called Talons that serves real food and alcohol. We even have an Arboretum. What sounds best to you?"

"Well... I've been to Talon's already, most rec rooms are the same, I don't really plan to do much swimming in the pool, so why not head to the Arboretum?" Joey asked.

You have the flotation devices for swimming, though she thought, but kept her eyes looking up past those. "You're in luck," she said. "It's just on deck six, so a short turbolift ride." She gestured for the Lieutenant to follow her and headed out the door. "Actually, I haven't been there myself, yet."

Joey followed behind her. "Wait... did you say Cadet Senior Grade? How long have you been on board?"

"About four and a half months," Kelly said as she headed for the nearest turbolift and summoned it. "There's only five of us on board. I'm Flight, but I seconded in Engineering and I'm on the Command track, too. What department are you in, Lieutenant Corwin?"

"I'm in Security. I had a feeling what happened back there was an accident, which is why I'm not taking you to the brig. In case... you were wondering." The much taller woman said.

"Security...sounds like it's going to be an intense time for your department," Kelly said as the turbolift arrived and she stepped in. "Have you been doing it long?"

"Since I graduated. I was a Close Protections Officer until I decided I wanted to go for SAR training. After seventeen months of the most brutal conditions and training you could imagine, I went back to Close Protections as well as K-9 handler," She replied. "It's not for everyone."

"Ohhh, I've heard of SAR," Kelly said with a shiver. "I thought about it, but it would have eaten me alive and spit me out. Not that I can't take a little hardcore, but that's just too much. I also wouldn't be here if I did and we wouldn't have met, then who would take you on tour?"

"Exactly, so everything happens for a reason," Joey said, moving forward to walk next to Kelly. "When I say it's brutal, though, I'm not sugarcoating it. It can make the strongest person crack."

"I've heard that some SAR classes haven't graduated a single person," Kelly said. "That has to be insane when an entire class fails it. You have my respect and admiration, Lieutenant." The turbolift arrived and she stepped in.

"Thank you, and since I'm out of uniform, I'd prefer if you called me Joey. This isn't exactly a professional setting." In fact, the only thing she had on work related was her combadge. Even Rico was back in their quarters being lazy and enjoying his downtime with his favorite sock.

"Then call me Kelly, Joey," she said with a smile, her combadge attached to her waistband of her pants. "Deck Six," she told the computer before she looked back at the statuesque brunette. "So what does a Close Protection Officer and K-9 Handler do on a small ship like this? I know we have an Ensign K-9 Handler here, but he's new, too."

"Ensign Xavier Hernandez and Pequeno. I'm going to be helping him out with his training a bit," She said. "We're mostly used for running patrols and making sure that people... and things... don't make it on board without us knowing about it."

When the turbolift came to a halt and the doors open. "I've met him. He's dating my roommate, Cadet Elisha Cherno. She's in Stellar Cartography," she said as she stepped out. "I know Security will be able to handle everything." She looked around and checked the wall map. "Okay. The Arboretum is just down this way, if you'll follow me."

Joey stepped out of the turbolift behind Kelly and looked in the direction she'd just indicated. "Security isn't a department that everyone is suited for, that's for sure."

"I have friends who went into Security," she said as she walked down the corridor. "Me, though, I've always had my heart set on flying as long as I can remember. My goal is to be a test pilot for the newest ships of the line one day."

"I wish you luck in all of your future endeavors, Kelly," Corwin said with a genuine smile.

"Thanks!" Kelly said as they arrived at the Arboretum, the double doors opened with the scent of flowers drifting on the oxygen rich air. Rows of flowers formed paths and were bordered by colorful crystals which seemed to have an inner glow to the. A few small bushes were scattered here and there and some shrubbery which reached heights of five feet tall formed a minor maze which led towards a water fountain which looked like Atlas holding the world on his shoulders from which water poured from the oceans in carefully controlled force fields.

"Wow... it's absolutely gorgeous here. I've never really taken much time out to enjoy the little things in life like this. Maybe, it's time for that to change." She made her way over to one of the benches and settled down so she could admire everything around them. "I'm rather glad I chose this as our first stop. It's pretty peaceful."

"It is," Kelly said with a smile as she sat down near her without pressing against her. "I love nature, but I haven't spent as much time as I wanted it in since I left home for the Academy other than a few times when we had leave."

"The life of Starfleet personnel. We don't take time to appreciate the little things anymore," Joey said, taking the time to enjoy the scenery around them.

"I'm on my cadet cruise right now," she said. "We won't be graduation for a while yet. I just became a senior prior to arriving here."

"Thank goodness you weren't anything like me when I was at the academy. I almost got the boot for being a horse's ass. As you can see... I didn't, but that's because I was given a second chance," Joey said as she closed her eyes to take in the various scents of the flowers around them. "A career in Starfleet is a lifelong commitment for many people. I'm sure your family is very proud of you, too, and they should be. Not everyone can hack it."

"I almost quit because a horse's ass," Kelly replied. "He was my Flight Instructor and I mentally referred to him as Commander Butthole and openly called him that when he wasn't around. He thought he was some deity's gift to the universe and the only way I'd ever be better than him was if he died and all kinds of other crap. My family is proud. I'm the first one in my family to ever be in Starfleet. I have a cousin who runs a massage and salon at as a civilian contractor on campus, too. Ever heard of The White Lotus?"

Corwin shook her head. "No. I've never heard of it before, and regardless of your personal feelings about someone, you should always respect someone who outranks you. Just like you, they bust their humps to get where they are in their careers. You do realize if the wrong person were to hear you badmouthing a senior officer, you could have gotten into trouble?"

"At that point, I didn't really care, but I made it through it," she said. "Here I am now in the Gamma Quadrant as proof and doing Helm duty on the bridge, too."

"Seems like you owe your former Commander a little gratitude if you're still a cadet and doing Helm duty," The taller woman pointed out. "You're not going to like everyone you come across as you get older, but they'll all impact your life in some way."

"An instructor can only teach so much," Kelly said. "I earned my spot here. You can teach someone until the cows come home, but they have to want to learn. I even made Nova Squad at the Academy...which earned me my call sign."

"Hey... I'm not saying you didn't earn your spot. As I recall, those words never once left my lips. But without people teaching us to do the things we know how to do, we wouldn't know how to do them, now would we?"

"It is possible to teach people things without being an asshole, though," Kelly pointed out.

"Different people teach different ways. Like I said... you're going to come across people that you don't like in your lifetime. Here on the Black Hawk and wherever you decide to go in the future. It's how you deal with them that will make a difference," Joey said, looking around her current surroundings once more.

"I know," she said. "I learned that, too." She got up and went to kneel down before something near the bench and inhaled the scent. "Like the Klingon Hibiscus. For such a warlike species, they produce things of incredible beauty like this."

"That's how life works," Corwin stated. "I should probably let you get to wherever it was you were heading to before we bumped into one another."

"Actually, I have no idea where I was going," Kelly said. "I have a date at eighteen hundred, but I have a few hours to go for that."

Joey canted her head and rose to her feet, making her way over to some of the flowers so she could lean in to smell them. "Well, Kelly, I can honestly say it's been pretty interesting running into you, and that you've got spunk."

Kelly looked over at her and smiled. "I try," she said. "Maybe we'll run into each other again sometime as long as I'm not being arrested."

Corwin laughed. "Maybe so. I'll make sure to turn corners with my arms out from now on."

"Are they long enough?" she asked, then slapped a hand over her mouth and turned bright red as she realized what she just implied.

"As a matter of fact, I do believe that they are," She said. "My chest is not that large."

"Permission to speak freely?" Kelly asked her.

"I'm hoping I don't regret this, but granted," The brunette woman answered.

"They're incredible," Kelly said. "I felt like I got to know them five minutes before you came into recreation."

Joey blinked. Now she was regretting giving Kelly permission to speak freely, but it was done now, and their already awkward situation earlier was making a u-turn back that way. "I... um..." What in the world did a person say to that? Was there anything that could be said to that? Not likely.

"Anyhoo, I just wanted to say that," Kelly said nonchalantly. "No harm, no foul?"

"Sure," Joey said. "I'm sure I'll see you around, Kelly, but I should finish acquainting myself with the ship. It's going to be home for some time to come."

"Okay," she said. "I'd offer to show you more, but there's just some places a cadet can't go."

"It's not a problem," Joey said with a smile. "I'll see you around, Kelly." And with that, she made her way out of the Arboretum so she could go back to getting to know the Black Hawk.

"See ya!" Kelly watched her go and a few minutes later, she headed out herself.
