Mission: Risky Business
Location: Medical
Timeline: MD 6 || 1230 Hours

Senior Chief Petty Officer Mila Anastasiya Rasputin had gotten the alert when Lieutenant Joey Corwin was back on the Black Hawk at twelve-fifteen hours, but the computer had pinned her location as being in Medical. While she had worked, Mila sent an inquiry to Medical on the her status, ostensibly as a routine update for wounded personnel and had been told that Lieutenant Corwin was in surgery with wounds sustained while she had been on her away mission on the Chimera.

The nurse who had spoken to Mila wasn't exact with what happened, so the moment Mila got off duty, she headed to Medical to see for herself. Once she arrived, she was told that the Security Lieutenant was still in surgery and that Mila would have to wait to see her. Annoyed but understanding, Mila had asked to be notified the moment Joey was out of surgery and went to find somewhere to be out of the way.

Not too much later, one of Mila's fellow enlisted officers moved out into the corridor where she was waiting and cleared her throat. "Senior Chief Rasputin... Lieutenant Corwin is out of surgery and is in recovery now. If you'll follow me, I'll take you to see her." She offered the Russian woman a smile and moved back inside, taking her to where Joey was, but she stopped just before they made it inside. "She's resting, but she is awake."

"Thank you," Mila said before she went around the woman and into the room. She wanted to be stern and blunt as a hammer at her sestra being hurt, but the sight of Joey laying there nearly made her cry. She steeled herself and marched over to where the taller brunette lay in her bed and crossed her arms. "I am being told you are being fresh out of surgery. Why?"

Joey heard the voice and pulled herself back from the sweet sweet darkness that was beckoning her. She wanted to sleep, but that was because of the mix of anesthetic and pain medication in her system. Opening her eyes, she turned to look at the steely Russian woman. "Shoulder injury."

"You are getting hurt when I am telling you this is to be bad thing before you are leaving?" Mila asked and tutted with a shake of her head. "You are Security, da?"

"I'm sorry," she said softly, closing her eyes in an attempt to avoid looking at the unhappy woman standing next to her bed. This was one of those moments she wished she could go back and change, but the outcome wouldn't have been any different. "Sadly, I didn't really have a choice. It was either this, or falling to my death. This seemed like the lesser of two evils at the time."

Mila's stern expression faded and she sank down to her knees by the biobed and reached to take Joey's good hand. "I am just thankful that you are coming back alive, Sestra."

Joey gave Mila's hand a gentle squeeze followed by a sleepy smile. "I told you I would," she said softly. "I try not to break my promises. Everything will be back to normal soon."

"You are crazy woman to be taking on ship alone, but very brave," Mila told her as she tried to hold her tears back.

"Maybe so, but it's what needed to be done to ensure the safety of everyone on board the Black Hawk. I just wish something could have been done before we were boarded and attacked." Joey shook her head. "I was still on the ship when that happened, and there wasn't anything I could do to help. That drove me crazy."

"There is something wrong with ship," Mila said. "Systems are not acting right. We are thinking it is virus put by intruders, but none of intruders are talking yet."

"Why does that not surprise me?" Joey asked with a frown. "I'm sure whoever is handling the interrogations will get them to talk eventually, and the systems will be back to normal soon. I'll be back on my feet soon enough, and will help out if I can."

"I am not knowing who is being in charge of Security at moment," Mila said. "Lieutenant Di Pasquale is on Cochrane with Lieutenant Cooper and you are here in sickbay."

Corwin groaned and sat up the second Mila mentioned not knowing who was in charge of Security. There were a few officers in the department, but how many of them really knew how to run things? Then again... she'd never been in charge of a department before, either, but she'd do a better job than most would. "I'll handle it." She still felt a little pain in her shoulder, but it was nothing compared to when she'd first come in.

"Nyet!" Mila said with such vehemence that a nearby enlisted personnel snapped to attention as if they had been caught stealing her special vodka potatoes. "You are to be laying your ass down in bed until you are being released by doctor. Are you understanding me or am I to be sitting on you until I can get someone to strap you down?"

Joey blinked and settled back down on the bed. She'd never seen Mila get so upset before. What in the hell could she possibly say to that? Absolutely nothing, but she found herself obeying the Senior Chief and smoothing out the blanket that covered her.

"Better," Mila said as she got up and fussed with the blanket for a moment before she looked at Joey. "You are not to be hurting yourself again or I am to be telling Harvey you are putting yourself in danger for no reason."

"It wasn't for no reason, Mila. I was sliding down the ladder in a Jeffries tube to move faster, and there was an explosion on the deck I was on. I ended up being knocked off of it and had to catch myself so I didn't fall to my death," she said.

Mila shook her head. "No, no, no. I am talking about you attempting to get out of bed to go run Security when you cannot even clap."

"You're the second person who has said that," the bed ridden woman said with a frown. "I'm okay now."

"Who was first person?" Mila asked her when she noticed the frown.

"Doctor Abrams," Joey answered. "That's how I came to find out I needed to have surgery in the first place. I don't think he was too pleased with me, but given the situation I was in, I didn't have a choice but to use my shoulder. I suppose I did more damage by doing that, but what was I supposed to do? I had to take the crew down. It's done now."

"If Doctor is saying this, then he is knowing what he is talking about," Mila said as if that settled that. "I am getting notice that you are back, but when I am checking on you, I am finding that you are in surgery. I am waiting hour just to see you and now you are trying to get out of bed to do more when you are still recuperating. I am not having you injure yourself again."

Joey shifted around a bit, keeping her left arm as still as she could. "I'll be okay, Mila. With technology the way it is now, I'll be able to clap before the day is over, then it will be back to my normal routine. I'm only here to be monitored. Don't tell Harvey, either. He's got enough stress to deal with. By the time this makes it across his desk, I'll already be out."

"How could I not be telling him?" Mila asked. "I am being his Yeoman and delivering reports when they are coming in. He is knowing full horizontal and vertical of ship as it changes."

"You're right, and he might not be happy with me for keeping it from him. We're together now. As of this morning," the taller brunette said. "Just... make sure he knows I'm okay."

"You are together as in you are being a couple?" Mila asked, her voice hesitant as if she didn't want to give Joey hope, but filled with the hope that is what the bedbound brunette had meant.

Corwin nodded. Thinking about Harvey brought a smile to her face, even if it was a sleepy one. "Yes. We are a couple. He and Rico surprised me this morning while I was packing up my gear in the training facility. I wasn't expecting to see him until everything was over with."

"That is to be great news!" Mila exclaimed. "I am happy for you, Joey! I am thinking that I am needing to be making special meal for you both when you are out of here."

"Thank you, Mila," Joey said with another smile. "Oh... I still have it, too." She gestured to the table by the bed she was on where the pin Mila gave her earlier in the day was. It would become one of her most prized possessions.

Dani walked into Joey's room to check some of the readings on the biomonitor behind the bed. She didn't want to interrupt their time together, but checking such things and making sure patients were comfortable was necessary. "You're going to need to get some rest soon, Lieutenant," she said with a smile. "Doctor Abrams hasn't mentioned when you're being released just yet, but I'm sure he'll let you know soon."

"The sooner, the better, though I'm sure you hear that all the time," Corwin said, smiling at the fun-sized nurse.

"More than you realize," the blonde haired woman said. "I'll be back to check on you again in a bit. I've got some other patients to check in on. If you need anything, let me know." With that, she walked out of the room to continue making her rounds.

"She is doing good by you and you are to be listening to her," Mila said with a smile. "For now, though, I am thinking that you are needing something good for you. Are you being soup or steak person?"

"I plan to listen. It means I'll be out of here sooner," Joey said, looking over to her companion. "Soup will be good. I'd need two arms to eat anything else. I'm assuming you're going to go see Harvey after you leave here. He can come see me if he wants to, but let him know he doesn't have to. He's busy after everything that's happened today, and as the ship's Captain, everything else has to come first."

"I am letting Harvey know first, then I am making Russian Halushki soup for you," she said. "Is good chicken and dumpling soup will all that you are needing. You are coming first now, Joey and I am not taking no for answer. If Harvey is to be Captain all the time, he is to become very boring. He is needing Harvey time, too, da?"

She didn't have it in her to argue, so Joey was going to let Mila have this win. "I've got no intentions of arguing with you, so whatever you say goes. I'm going to be here until Doctor Abrams tells me I can go anyway, but do me a favor and see if you can sneak Rico in for me?"

"I am not arguing," Mila said as she moved to adjust Joey's pillow a bit. "I am simply saying what it is that I wish to do for you. I will do my best to get Rico in, but I am thinking Captain may have better luck with Doctor. You are knowing how doctors are being when it is coming to their patients."

Joey let Mila fuss over her without protest. "You're right... he probably would have more luck. Just make sure he knows I'm fine." She wasn't going to say anything about him not coming to see her again, though. The truth of the matter... she wanted to see him, but his obligations to the ship and crew came first. That was well understood. For now, though, she planned to give into the medication coursing through her and sleep. "I'm going to follow Nurse Blake's orders and rest now. I'll see you a little later?"

"Da," Mila said. "If you are getting out of here before I am returning, please be letting me know. I would not wish Medical staff to think I am bring Halushki soup for everyone, although is not bad idea. Still, I would need entire mess hall and crew of fifty to be making enough for entire ship." She paused. "I am rambling, so I am letting you get your rest now and I will let Harvey know and will be making sure he is bringing Rico."

"If he can, and I'll let you know if I'm out before you have the chance to make it back, though I doubt it," she said, before settling in to close her eyes.

Mila leaned over and placed a kiss on her head. "Rest, Sestra," she said softly. "I will return later." With that, she turned and headed out.

Joey smiled when Mila kissed her head, then watched her leave. It had been one hell of a day that started off way too early. Part of her wanted to climb out of bed, put on her uniform and go back to work, but even she knew she'd be in serious trouble if she did it. For now, she'd give into the darkness that she fought off during Mila's visit. Without waiting another second, she closed her eyes and let sleep claim her.
